5 things from the weekend

It's spring! (almost) Rejoice!
Things have been a little crazy around here lately, demonstrated by the fact that we designated part of Friday night "work time" to finish school and work projects (nerd status right here, folks). Plus Andre spent most of Saturday in the library. But! we managed to squeeze in some fun things, like rekindling our seasonal love of Shamrock Shakes, practicing our tower building skills, realizing running isn't so bad with a sweet Boulder view, and getting back in our bowling groove. Even Rhett joined in on the fun!
Now we're back at it and counting down the days to spring break!

things we learned this weekend

  • there is no such thing as pumpkin overload. we made pumpkin chocolate chip bread and pumpkin better than cake and have been in a delightful pumpkin coma all weekend. no regrets.
  • college football is a thrill-ride (just kidding, we already knew this)
  • apparently people actually go to the movie theater early saturday morning. we went to see Meet the Mormons at 9:45 and there was a showing of almost every other movie. let's just say we were in a strange saturday morning movie-going crowd.
  • making friends with store employees=more samples. We checked out the new Oil and Vinegar store and chatted up a worker to get the inside scoop, the best flavors, and the freshest sample bread. win win win.
  • wet playgrounds mean wet babies. and wet babies can smell like wet dog. We literally got to the park just as a freak rainstorm dumped for 10 minutes. I still let Rhett play when it was done, but it turns out babies can get soggy and stinky really quickly. lesson learned.
  • sewing flowy fabric is harder in real life than it is in your head. but look at this dress that I whipped up while Rhett was napping! Aren't I so domestic?
(jokes. in real life Rhett wasn't actually sleeping, just crying in his crib. this Pinterest project claimed to take 15 minutes but took more than an hour and I skipped some steps and the sash became a necessity to cover the flaws. and I'm still on the fence about the fabric--it's one of those things that can just as easily be cute or ugly, but I got it for like 8000% off, so it would be a shame not to wear it.)

a little of this and that...

this weekend was full of a little bit of...
AndrĂ© real-life lawyering at the court house
ice cream treat eating
long walking

friday evening playing some basketball (Rhett is the best cheerleader)
cheap BBQ finding

Easter Bunny meeting

Mom and baby outside reading
baking and piano playing
snowing?!?!

no pants wearing

pretty good all around

zoom zoom

We've decided the best way to pass the time waiting for baby is to stay as busy as possible. We spent yesterday afternoon at a free car show, where we were thoroughly entertained by both the people and the cars. I think André would have taken any one of those cars home.

And we may have seen our future--retirees with super nice cars just camping out at all the car shows.

weekend adventurers

There's something about a bright spring weekend that makes us want to try new things. I somehow convinced Andre to put aside his homework and have some fun adventures this weekend.
Look! We wore shorts! and no coats! What a day!

Our weekend kicked off with Soccer Saturday--a pick-up game in the morning and the Real Salt Lake game in the afternoon--my first professional soccer game. Andre may have quietly cheered for the Colorado Rapids, but at least we didn't get beat up by RSL fans!

We kept trying new things with our festive St. Patrick's day dinner on Sunday. I woke up from my tired and pregnant Sunday nap to find Mr. Kitchen Adventurer creating new roll and jello (green, of course) recipes. What a champ!

weekends are made for...

cupcake and art museum dates
morning temple trips
broncos games
movie nights
late night chats with friends
sunday inspiration
laughing too much at game night
snuggles with husbands
not a bad weekend, I would say.

things we've learned recently...

so it turns out...

all Peter Breinholt songs sound like EFY
Rooftops and almost-super moons make for the best evenings
Homemade Cafe Rio pork makes a disproportionate amount of tomatillo sauce and give you leftovers for days
Planning for a husband's birthday is probably more fun than planning for your own
The Avengers is the greatest
Middle school kids aren't as cool as you thought you were in middle school
Being able to actually sleep in on a Sunday is also the greatest
Andre makes breakfast in bed like a champ
And also does a spot-on impersonation of a dancing walrus
Hot dogs are even better when they are free

Andre checking out a recliner in the RC Willey parking lot (we just come for the hotdogs), rooftop concert with Peter Breinholt, Avengers!, breakfast in bed
