Dear zucchini,
It's that time of year again when I can't get enough of you. Bring on the bread, muffins, and zucchini parmesan! (and the extra trips to the gym).
Dear Olympics,
Thank you for being the best (obvs) and for giving me allll the emotions. And as an added bonus, thanks for being the best parenting tool ever. Rhett will do anything if it means he gets to watch a little bit of the Olympics before going to bed. I owe you big time, Bob Costas
Dear alone time,
I got to savor you this weekend when the boys were gone for three days, and it was a little bit nice, a little bit overwhelming, and a little too quiet. Me time is nice for a few days (shopping by myself was heavenly!), but it was great when Andre and Rhett rolled back into town.
Dear smallpox,
I'm reading this book and learning way more than I ever wanted to know about infectious diseases and pustulation and quarantines, so three cheers for smallpox being eradicated!
Dear Rhett,
We just bought your first-ever first day of school outfit and I'm mostly excited (but a little nervous) about it. Preschool!
Dear Christmas,
I'm weirdly already planning for you? I know, I know, there are four-plus months to go, but presents! decorations! new traditions! so much to love.

little letters
Dear Whole30,
I love how you make my body feel, and I'm sorry I dumped you as soon as the 30 days were done and moved on so quickly to the enticing birthday and Super Bowl junk food. I'll get back on track, I promise. Just as soon as we finish these gallons of green chile dip.
Dear Broncos,
Ok, I'll jump on the bandwagon. Seeing orange and blue everywhere is fun, and having a super happy husband from your big win is great. Plus, Rhett really loves playing "spot the Broncos" and talking about Peyton Manning, and you can't beat that.
Dear Costco,
Signing up for a membership was the best (and most dangerous) thing we've done in a while. We can't wait to cruise your aisles for samples and bulk goods!
Dear knock knock jokes,
Sorry about all the butchered jokes coming from our house lately, but teaching Rhett the art of joke-telling has been comedic gold in itself. He definitely has some work to do, but we're slowing turning him into a polished comedian with real material.
Dear Coldplay,
We've always loved you (Andre and I just decided you're top of our concert dream list), and we're still big fans after the half time show. Even Rhett loves to rock out to your newest album. We'd take you over Beyonce any day.
Dear DietBet,
I was a little skeptical at first, but then I realized I could double up with the Whole30 and win some money for the weight I was losing, I was totally game. Thanks for the $30 and the new pair of cute shoes I can't wait to wear!

little letters
Dear Ben Gibbard,
You are the best. Seriously. We've been big Death Cab for Cutie fans since high school, but seeing you live at Red Rocks was a highlight of our summer. And yes, I would follow you into the dark.
Dear 5K,
I see you, sneakily penciled in on the calendar. And one of these days I'll switch my normal gym workout to the treadmill, I promise.
Dear baby boy,
You turn 2 this week, so I guess you're not really a baby anymore! How did this happen? How am I old enough to have a 2 year old? This is madness, pure and simple.
Dear cows,
Our free Chic-fil-a prep was a little rushed this year, but I can a family of darn cute cows show up at your restaurant and we savored every bite of our free food.
Dear window air conditioner,
You are without a doubt the best thing I've ever purchased. I don't know what we would do without you this summer.
Dear women of Boulder,
Put a shirt on. Please. Everyone will thank you.

Dear Mariners,
You are killing it this season. Sure, it's only been a week but I'll take first place whenever I can get it. Keep it up, boys
Dear Rockies,
I'm trying to be a good Coloradan and root for you, I really am. But the losing and the purple uniforms are making it kind of difficult. I'm hoping taking in a game in person soon will turn that all around.
Dear parents,
Why oh why isn't there a little Latin blood in me? It really would make all the hip-shaking and body-rolling in Zumba just a little easier.
Dear Olive Garden breadsticks,
You are the best. Also the worst (for my hips). I'm sorry I left my to-go bag of leftovers on the table when we left. I'm still mourning the loss of your next day delicious-ness
Dear teething baby,
Woof. Growing teeth must be hard. I feel for you, kid.
Dear bucket list,
Cross off "get on the jumbotron at a major sporting event". Thanks for the memories, Nuggets!
Dear General Conference,
You were a much needed boost of inspiration this weekend. And being able to spend lots of time with my husband doesn't hurt, either. It's moments like these that make my heart happy.

little letters
Dear self,
Recommit yourself to No Crap November. Your body (and mind) will thank you.
Dear baby boy,
You are adorable and I love you, but these nights with three hours of sleep on the rocking chair are hurting my neck a lot and my soul a little bit. Cribs are great places to sleep, kid.
Dear Thanksgiving,
Can't wait to see you! I need some stuffing and cranberry sauce in my life. Not to mention the pie...maybe No Crap November will have to take a little break.
Dear November,
You've been killing it with the weather lately. 60 degrees and no snow in the middle of the month? Maybe a Colorado winter won't be so bad! (haha, yeah right!)
Dear strangers on the BV bus,
Keep being weird. Sure, my husband has to put up with your crazy antics on his commute, but the stories are super entertaining for me.
Dear library story time,
You make me feel like a real mom. You know, the kind who takes her kid to story time and chats with the other moms. But really I just love you for the little kid watching as they run wild and my immobile baby sits nicely on my lap.
Dear Christmas shopping,
I love you! My bank account, not so much.

little letters
Dear law school,
Why do you have to be so expensive? We would like to eat more than beans and rice for the next three years.
Baby Boy,
Thanks for the constant tap dancing in my belly. We are so excited to see you in just three more months!
Dear ants,
Beware. If any of you survived the Great Kitchen Battle of 2013, I will come for you. Tell your friends.
Dear naptime,
Please come earlier in the day. Or just come at all. 9:30am sounds good?
Dear Husband,
You graduate in just 2.5 weeks! So excited! So proud!
Dear pregnancy brain,
Forget all the doubters, you are real. And terrifying. In the last week, I have lost two oranges at work, mysteriously found two water bottles on my desk, forgotten where I live, and torn my office apart looking for a paper I left on the printer. Oh boy.
Dear springtime,
You teased us with beautiful weather a few weeks back, and I wouldn't mind if you did it again, but for now these rainy mornings are just fine with me (but don't tell anyone, I seem to be in the minority)

little notes
To the pioneers,
Thanks for crossing the plains. Besides giving us Utah, youth conference treks, and 1996 EFY classics like "You Don't Have to Cross the Plains", I'm really glad that because of you we get a holiday with no obligations and sunny weather. Thanks.
To the Greeks,
When you created the calendar system, I doubt you thought about Pioneer Day 2012 being on a Tuesday, but I'm sure glad you made it that way. One day of work then a bonus weekend day then back for a three day week? The greatest.
Dear Ichiro,
I never thought I would see the day that you would leave Seattle, and for the worst team no less. Well, it's been real. I'll be trading in my Ichiro Mariners jersey and cheering against you on the Yankees, but in a few weeks when the outfielders aren't robbing people of home runs, I'll probably be missing you. (Listen to Death Cab for Cutie's Ichiro Theme here. you will love it.)
To the Olympics,
Wow, we love you. A lot a lot. Can't wait to watch you in a few days, cheer for our team, and get really into an obscure sport (this year I'm feeling kayaking and rhythmic gymnastics)
Dear knit jersey,
Please stop being so stretchy and difficult to sew! I've heard all about you on Project Runway, but you are not the favorite fabric of this novice sewer.
To my sweet husband,
Thanks for laughing with me and helping me improve. I can't believe we've almost been married a year-- what a year it has been!
