It's been real, 2011

I think its safe to say that 2011 was our best year yet. There were lots of big changes, but I am struck at how blessed we are. A look back at some of our favorite moments of 2011:

In January I headed to Texas to do some pre-SuperBowl PR for a nonprofit. I started my last semester of college, bowled the most terrible game, rued Utah winters and cheered for Jimmer.

February started with a bang with my pancake birthday party and the big 2-2. We rode in a carriage and ventured to the dinosaur museum for the first time. André made his first trip to Washington when we headed home for a long weekend to spend time with my family in Seattle.

March was busy with school, job applications and getting ready to graduate. We loved March madness and the start of springtime. Senior-itis began to kick it. Oh, and we got engaged at the end of the month-- paying attention in school became nearly a lost cause

April was busy busy with wedding planning and lots of fun. The Kaisers came out for General Conference and we spent the weekend playing in Salt Lake. André started his dream student job of working at the MTC. There was swanky girls weekend in Park City. And I graduated.

In May I started my first real-person job and dove headfirst into insurance plans and paid vacation. André discovered that maybe spring classes aren't as fun as playing. I made my first ice cream cake and we hiked and explored all over Utah.

By the time June hit we were ready to get married. André finished up his classes, I kept working and we became regulars at the farmers market and local shave ice stands.

July was a big month, starting with the worst sunburns in our lives. We headed up to Washington towards the end of the month to spend time with all of our families. I went through the temple for the first time and we were married on July 28th.

August started off with our honeymoon to Victoria, Canada where we met a violin-playing Darth Vader. We put the finishing touches on our new home and enjoyed married life and took a trip to Colorado for our beautiful backyard reception.

September brought busy back to school. We loved the warm weather and start of fall and hiked and explored a lot. André became the master of finding freebies.

In October we were famous a couple of times. We were the Incredibles for Halloween and hosted a few fall-themed get-togethers. André even let me ride a tractor.

In November work and school absorbed our lives. We hosted our first Thanksgiving when the Kaisers came to town.

December was a flurry of parties, Christmas prep and loving the season. We took our first trip to the ER and spent Christmas with my family in Seattle where André learned just how much it rains in the Northwest.

And just like that we are ready for 2012. It may be hard to top this year, but we are excited to whatever comes next!

some Christmas cheer...

If we had a Christmas letter, it would go something like this:
André: Loves teaching at the MTC. Glad to finally be taking class in his statistics major. Has a new-found hobby of freebie and deal finding. Busy busy. Tries to make time for cooking with his wife, pullups and telling jokes. Always up for an impromptu dance party with Michelle. Loves cuddling on the couch and watching Psych. Loves his wife. Loves his life.

Michelle: Glad to be graduated. Loves the world of fulltime work, paid vacations and fun projects. Enjoys working on campus and getting visits from her husband. Still learning how to be a good wife and run her own house. New owner of her very own sewing machine. Loves finding good deals, crafting and laughing with André. Trying to get better at yoga, ward chorister-ing and unloading the dishwasher in a timely manner. Loves her husband. Loves her life.

We are excited to spend this time of year together, reflecting on the birth of our Savior and all He has done for us. 2011 was our best year yet and we are excited to see what the future brings. Merry Christmas!

thanksgiving is for turkeys

oh thanksgiving break, you wonderful thing.
we had a lovely week full of family, food and fun.
since Andre had to work most of the break, the Kaisers decided to bring the party to us. We had lots of fun adventures and loved hosting our first Thanksgiving together! We managed to cook everything in our small, one-oven kitchen and didn't even burn the house down! Some highlights:
exploring Park City
a dream come true--sitting in an Olympic bobsled (replica). Andre is going to have to subdue my new desire to train for the next Olympics
BYU basketball game!
lots and lots of games and treats
delicious turkey
lights at Temple Square
visiting the Draper Temple
and we even celebrated an early Christmas!

4 pictures for 4 months

It has been four wonderful months since the most perfect day in July. We just got our wedding pictures back and couldn't be happier.
We celebrated with early morning pancakes before work and assembling our new vaccuum tonight.
life is just great.

Don't worry folks, we are alive. The last few weeks have brought sickness (my first sick day in years), lot of work and homework for André and lots and lots of work for me. This week was our biggest conference of the year with most of our biggest donors on campus and I found myself working 15 hour days nearly every day. Poor André was forced to do his stats homework and eat frozen pizza all by himself. It was a good experience and I learned a lot, but I couldn't help but be glad this happens just once a year.
We are excited to have (most of) our evenings back together.
But not to worry, we have done some fun things in the last little bit:
went to a taping of the BYU football pre-game show and watched the game on the big screen
dressed up as the Incredibles for Halloween for our rocking ward party. I even made these owl cupcakes from Pinterest and they were a big hit.

Had a cider and games night with some friends. We ate way too much sugar and had too much fun.

Snow is falling in the mountains and André's midterms are picking up. We sure are excited for the rest of fall and holidays with our families!
